  • China Shares Soar Despite rate hike

    By Pehon | July 24, 2007

I’ve extracted an article from the Business Times - 24 July 2007, as i believe what has happened to China on the 23 July 2007 is a good example to the rest of the world.

Right now, the world market is worried with the American’s Subprime and inflation problems. However despite the constant worry, we see the bulls and bears jostling for the thrend in the market (though we see the bulls winning the race thus far).

But what we have seen in the Chinese market shows us Read the rest of this entry »

    Penny stocks… The debate continues…

    By Pehon | July 22, 2007

    WL said

“Hi PeHon, I dont quite agree with you on your discription of penny stocks as “They belong to companies that have no fundamentals. No growth potential. No drive by the management to expand.”. Or”They are not owned by rich institutional investors. They are almost totally owned by penny stock speculators.” But before I go further I would like to understand more what are the other considerations, beyond those you mentioned above, of penny stock. Would you consider Unifiber, GlobalVoice, UMS, Firstlink, K1venture or Informatics as being penny stocks that fit your description (that I have quoted you above)?? Raffles Education was a penny stock…. Regards”

Hello WL, i do agree that several stocks that are now blue chip stocks started from no where as a Penny stock.

But with regards to raffles education, like several other companies, something must happen for it to start being viewed as a growth stock ie change in management, change in business model etc.

    Vestopedia

    By Pehon | July 22, 2007

Came across this website, newly created this year, Vestopedia. They call themselves “America’s 1st marketplace for real financial performance”. Here’s a review on the services they provide.

Basically, the company has linked up with several experienced “investment directors”, with incredible credentials, and their trades, mainly on the USA stock market, are streamed real time to their members.

They have several investment directors, each with a different investment approach. From fundamental technique to technical analysts. Despite the difference in stock market, the techniques they apply can be applied to any market in the world, including in the SGX. Its in my opinion, a great way to learn your chosen style of trading/investing.

Penny stocks. Do money really grow on trees?

    By Pehon | July 20, 2007

When a the market is deep in a bull trend, many people who have never even read about stock investing, never even read the business times start to get interested. they are attracted by the bull that has been happening for months before that. They start to dig out their dusty and probably never used Poems account, and start to trade.

Naturally, equiped with no knowledge, no real cash commitment for investing, they look for the cheapest shares. Its attractive. If the stock pips up just 1 bid, large returns awaits. The penny stock speculator makes a killing on the first try. Easy money. He continues what he is doing as long as the bull continues. Penny stocks get stronger with these people slowly entering the market.

And none of them bought business times. Still.

But does money really grow on the penny stock trees?

    The Great Selldown?

    By Pehon | July 18, 2007

sti 180707The STI was down 67.08 points today. Losers lead gainers by 931 - 132. At the time of this post, Dow Jones is down by 47.23 points.

We saw similiar situations happen in Europe, and closer to home, Hong Kong, which fell 215.38 points.

If you were to look at most news report, they cite the reason for this fall to falling margins with Intel and rising concern that China’s going tighten their monetary policies in view of rising inflation. But thats internationally. It doesn’t explain the 1.8% drop in the STI.

    So what happened?
